Candidates

Why is it important to work with Agency’s who are REC Members?

Member agencies are regularly, independently inspected so you can be sure that their basic practices have been approved as safe and legal. Member agencies sign up to a code of practice, mandating that they must live up to the principles of:

Respect for Laws
Respect for Honesty and Transparency
Respect for Work Relationships
Respect for Diversity
Respect for Safety
Respect for Professional Knowledge
Respect for Certainty of Engagement
Respect for Prompt and Accurate Payment
Respect for Ethical International Recruitment
Respect for Confidentiality and Privacy

This will also ensure that your Agency receives regular briefings and updates on changes to the law and best practice in recruitment, so you can be assured their knowledge is up to speed with the changing environment.

Payroll

What paper work do I need to bring/ fill in in order to be on an appropriate tax code?

When starting a new job an employee needs to ensure they provide us with P45 from the previous employer as it will give us the tax code plus the details of how much they’ve earned and how much tax they’ve paid so far in the current tax year. If they don’t have a P45 form - because they haven’t received it yet/ of because this is their first job in UK- then they need to ask the new employee to give them P46 form which they will have to fill in.

What do I need to do in order to obtain a national insurance number?

Candidates to contact the local Job Centre Plus office (Winchester Road Basingstoke, RG21 8ES, tel: 0845 6043719) and they will be booked for an interview.

What do I need to do in order to claim overpaid tax?

If an employee overpaid tax in previous tax year, there is only one way to claim it back and that is by calling Inland Revenue office on 0845 300 0627 the employee tax helpline (the employee tax helpline) where they will be given instructions on what documents will have to be sent. Inland revenue will look into each case separately and determine whether any tax is owed to the employee.

Am I entitled to SSP/SMP/SPP payment?

This depends on each employee’s individual circumstances. There are different rules regarding statutory payments so the best way to obtain an answer to that question would be by contacting our payroll department. For more information regarding statutory payments we would recommend the following website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment
